The guardian angel was installed in 1997 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Swiss railway network.
The painted polyester angel was a gift from the Securitas Company, weighing 1.2 tonnes and more than 11 meters in length and suspended gracefully high off the floor of one of the busiest railway stations in the world.

The work was shipped in three parts from the United States to Basel via Rotterdam and then transported to Zürich on a low loader, where she was reassembled and raised.
Niki's sculptural series of "Nanas" was originally inspired Gaudi´s Parc Güell in Barcelona.
