Dorrit Dekk - "CHÓNCHÓN" 1946
- Commissioned illustration by the British/Czech artist Dorrit Dekk (b.1917), who worked for the Central Office of Information
from 1946-48, producing many now-classic posters
- Dorrit's ink-and-brush painting is her interpretation of the "Chónchón" from Jorge Luis Borges' "Book Of Imaginary Beings":
"The Chónchón has the shape of a human head; its ears, which are extremely large, serve as wings for its flight on moonless nights . . . when they pass overhead intoning their ominoustué, tué, tué. . ."
